As a student I am getting tired of being ignored by the government. After Congress embarrasses themselves trying to fix the jobs problem I hope they turn to fixing public education. Quality education is key to the success of society. the people in school today are the ones that will be starting businesses and ultimately growing the country’s economy. If America can’t strengthen its education system it is going to hurt the country as a whole.
America is being left behind and it is time to fix it. The only reason this hasn’t been touched is because the people it affects don’t or cant vote. It is safe to not fix schools because students in k-12 cant vote and students in college often don’t vote. Unlike Social Security the people that are directly affected don’t have a major voice on the issue so Washington isn’t pressured into making it work.
I am not going to say I know how the public education system needs to be fixed (though I would like to hear some of your ideas). All I know is that it needs to be fixed. And if Congress is not going to fix it the least they can do is not cut any of the funding for it. Public Education is too important for the country to be sacrificed to pay for tax cuts.
